Although The Green Park is very close to St James’s Park, it has a completely different character. It is quieter with mature trees and lawns and is surrounded by Constitution Hill, Picadilly and the Broad Walk.
The Green Park has been in the history books since 1554 as the place where riots broke out against the marriage of Mary I to Phillip II of Spain. There was also often a duel in the park, until Charles II bought an additional 40 hectares and the park became known as upper St. James’s Park.
The primary function of The Green Park is a resting place for people who live, work and visit in London. In good weather, the park is very popular as a picnic area and for sunbathing. It’s also good for a nice walk. The park is used intensively by joggers and runners.
